A Silver Seringapatam Medal fitted within a glass lunette case

A Silver Seringapatam Medal fitted within an ornate silver and glass lunette case and ornate battle honour bar on a contemporary piece of ribbon. Originally commissioned by the East India Company in 1801 and was designed by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler and intended to be distributed to those soldiers and officers who contributed to the British victory at Seringapatam in May 1799 against the armies of Tippo Sultan, ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore
The reverse of the medal displays the storming of the fort with the sun as its meridian. The obverse shows the lion trampling Tippo’s emblem the tiger with the caption on a flag Lion of God the conqueror. Some 850 silver medals were issued in all.
Overall the condition is medal condition is EF with the silver lunette in VF to GVF condition showing a few edge knocks but otherwise a very nice medal.
