22nd or Cheshire regiment of Foot Officer’s Field Rank Waist belt Clasp

A 22nd or Cheshire Regiment of Foot Officer’s Waist belt Clasp worn up to 1855 by field rank officers i.e. Majors and above. Sometimes referred to as the universal field rank waist belt plate as the writer has seen numerous examples utilizing the same basic design. It would appear that many regiments used this version as well as bespoke examples.
The rectangular burnished gilt back plate conforms to the generally accepted dimensions and simply has a silver (white metal) VR cipher with a crown QVC above and the Arabic matted numerals of 22.
The reverse is age discolored and shows evidence of gilt overspill. A rare opportunity to acquire a good condition field rank waist belt plate.
