Portrait of a Royal Artillery officer dated 1856
A very fine pastel on paper of an officer in the Royal Artillery signed G. Bonavia and dated 1856 and contained in a birds eye maple frame measuring approx 31” x 25”.
It is quite possible that this pastel is a representation of a Crimean officer just about to embark for the war in the East. He wears a stable jacket with corded epaulettes and his forage cap rests on a plinth nearby. A pleasing pastel which has been very well executed. Some minor foxing to the paper but otherwise in very good condition.
