A 16th or (Bedfordshire) Regiment of Foot Officer’s Belltop Shako Plate
A very rare officer’s 16th or Bedfordshire Regiment of Foot belltop shako plate worn between 1829 and 1844.
On the universal gilt star plate is an elaborate silver (white metal ) star in a similar style to the star from the breast order for the Grand Cross of Bath. Attached to the star is a maltese cross surmounted with a Victorian crown and laurel wreath in rich fire gilt and with an inner fretted strap showing the words Bedfordshire and the Arabic numerals for 16 on a rich blue enamel background.
The reverse of the star has fixing eyelets on either side of the star but is missing the wire fixings that normally reside in the crown. The plate shows good age characteristics.
Overall in near mint condition and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.
