A 59th Regiment of Foot Field Rank Officer’s Waist Belt Plate circa 1850
A very rare 59th or Nottinghamshire regiment of foot officer’s field rank waist belt plate circa 1850.
The rectangular gilded plate comprises a silver (white metal) oblong garter strap with the words 2nd Nottingham, in the centre the roman numerals LIX and above the strap a Queen Victoria crown. The strap is surrounded by a laurel wreath and is secured in place by various pins on the reverse. The reverse shows signs of gilt overspill and is also aged dull.
Overall a pleasing and quite rare waist belt plate showing some light wear marks to the silver device and one of two chips to the edge of the gilt plate which do not detract from the appearance.
